A PNG with a real per-pixel alpha channel (color type 6, TruecolorAlpha) embeds as a color /FlateDecode XObject plus a child /SMask, both PNG-predictor-compressed - split out of the source's own interleaved color+alpha IDAT data, instead of a full pixel decode.
